Here are some tips to help make your Internet
browsing more efficient. (Settings
can be changed under your browsers Preferences
Menu.)
- Change
your default home page to a blank page. The
default page tends to take a long time to
download and may not be information you want
to read every time you open up your browser.
- Turn
off anything you don't need. Turn off your
graphics, sound, and animation options, if
all you're looking for is information. If
you think you may be missing something, you
can load the graphics afterwards. You can
also disable Java if you want to save time.
- Use
your cache wisely. When downloading a Web
page, your browser saves a copy of it in a
folder called cache on your hard disk. You
can adjust the cache settings so that the
next time you visit that page, your browser
will load it from the cache instead of the
original page. This will save you time from
having to download everything again and also
allow you to surf off-line. You should update
the page periodically, and if you can afford
the disk space, try doubling your cache size
to give your browser more to work with.
- Open
another window. This works best when you're
downloading something so you can open up another
window and read something else at the same
time.
- Organize
your Bookmarks (Favorites in Explorer). Delete
the old, infrequently used bookmarks and organize
your remaining bookmarks into different categories.
If you have too many bookmarks it can take
too long to search through your list, which
defeats the purpose of having bookmarks in
the first place!

If your starting a business, here are some great tips
to help you save money in the process!
-
Home
businesses can save on initial telephone costs
by using their residential phone lines.
- Send
all faxes after business hours when sending long distance
and the rates will be lower.
- Try
out shareware or freeware before buying a really expensive
commercial program. Most of these programs work just
as well as the commercial programs for a lot less.
Plus, you have the opportunity to try it before you
buy it.

11 helpful tips to help you get a better nights sleep.
- Avoid
watching TV, eating, and discussing emotional issues
in bed. The bed should be used for sleep and sex
only. If not, we can associate the bed with other
activities and it often becomes difficult to fall
asleep.
- Minimize
noise, light, and temperature extremes during sleep
with ear plugs, window blinds, or an electric blanket
or air conditioner. Interestingly, if your room
is too hot (above 75 degrees) or too cold (below
54 degrees), it can disrupt your sleep as well.
- Try
not to drink fluids after 8 p.m. This may reduce
awakenings due to urination.
- Avoid
naps, except for a brief 10-15 minutes about eight
hours after you awake. But if you have problems
falling asleep, then no naps for you.
- Do
not expose your self to bright light if you need
to get up at night. Use a small night-light instead.
- Nicotine
is a stimulant and should be avoided particularly
near bedtime and upon night awakenings. Having a
smoke before bed, although it feels relaxing, is
actually putting a stimulant into your bloodstream.
- Caffeine
is also a stimulant and is present in coffee (100-200
mg), soda (50-75 mg), tea (50-75 mg), chocolate,
and various over-the-counter medications. Caffeine
should be discontinued at least four to six hours
before bedtime. If you consume large amounts of
caffeine and you cut your self off too quickly,
beware; you may get headaches that could keep you
awake.
- Although
alcohol is a depressant and may help you fall asleep,
the subsequent metabolism that clears it from your
body when you are sleeping causes a withdrawal syndrome.
This withdrawal causes awakenings and is often associated
with nightmares and sweats.
- A
light snack may be sleep-inducing, but a heavy meal
too close to bedtime interferes with sleep. Stay
away from protein and stick to carbohydrates or
dairy products. Milk contains the amino acid L-tryptophan,
which has been shown in research to help people
go to sleep. So milk and cookies or crackers (without
chocolate) may be useful and taste good as well.
- Do
not exercise vigorously just before bed. If you
are the type of person who is aroused by exercise,
it may be best to exercise late in the afternoon
(preferably an aerobic workout, like running or
walking). Some studies have shown that exercise
right before bed is not as bad as once thought,
unless you are the type of person who becomes more
alert with exercise.
- Does
your pet sleep with you? This, too, may cause arousals
from either allergies or their movements in the
bed. Thus, Fido and Kitty may be better off on the
floor than on your sheets.

Plant Something...
- Plant
a tree or grow a garden. Plants turn carbon dioxide
into the oxygen we need to breathe. Trees also help
keep the soil from eroding away, and they give animals
like birds and squirrels a place to live. You can grow
plants inside, too. Try growing some salad greens or
herbs, that you can eat, on your windowsill.

Cuts & Scrapes...
"Grandma's
advice is wrong: Using hydrogen peroxide and letting
a cut 'dry out' is not beneficial to the healing process,"
says David J. Leffell, MD, chief of dermatologic and
laser surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut
and author of Total Skin. "Moist wounds will heal
up to 50% faster than wounds that dry out and develop
a scab," he says.
Hydrogen peroxide actually kills healthy skin cells
and delays healing. "You do not let a wound dry
out. The air is good for our lungs but not for wounds,"
Leffell says. "Wounds heal best when they are cleaned
properly with tap water, kept moist, and covered with
a bandage that promotes a moist healing environment,"
he says.
